Grimm Fairy Tales Complete Reading Order – A Collector's Guide

If you've ever stared at a shelf full of Grimm Fairy Tales graphic novels and wondered where to start — you're not alone. Published by Zenescope Entertainment, the GFT universe has grown into one of the most expansive independent comic series ever created, spanning dozens of volumes, spin-offs, and crossover events.

This guide breaks down the complete reading order so you can build your collection with confidence.

What Is Grimm Fairy Tales?

Grimm Fairy Tales reimagines classic fairy tales and folklore through a dark, modern lens. The series follows Sela Mathers, a mysterious woman who uses enchanted storybooks to teach moral lessons — often with deadly consequences. Over time, the universe expands into mythology, magic, and full-scale supernatural warfare.

It's part horror, part fantasy, part action — and completely addictive once you're in.

The Core Reading Order

Start with the main numbered volumes before branching into spin-offs and crossover events.

Spin-Offs & Story Arcs

Once you're caught up on the main series, these standalone stories and crossover arcs add depth to the GFT universe.

Collector's Tips

A few things worth knowing before you start building your GFT collection:

  • Start with the main volumes first. The numbered volumes establish the core characters and mythology. Spin-offs hit harder once you know the world.
  • Crossover events matter. Ascension and No Tomorrow in particular have major consequences for the ongoing story — don't skip them.
  • Variant covers exist. If you're a cover collector, keep an eye out — GFT has some of the most striking variant artwork in independent comics. We carry the Grimm Fairy Tales #111 Ebas Variant Cover SDCC for serious collectors.
